How do you feel about Valentine’s Day?
Is it another forgettable day or is it something you actively participate in?
Being single for most of my 30’s has meant that Valentine’s Day is not a day I often celebrate.
But I think this is a mistake. Valentine’s Day is about much more than romantic relationships and couple goals.
It is a reminder to give back.
- To give back to yourself because self-love should be a priority.
- To give back to your loved ones and family.
- To give back to your community and those who are in dire need of care (and they are many).
At the heart of Valentine’s Day is LOVE.
Love in all its ramifications, so I believe this is a beautiful thing to cultivate as you continue your journey to transforming your life.
Remember that true transformation comes down to you defining the things that matter to you and staying true to them.
So, in this spirit, here are some unusual yet wonderful ideas that capture the beauty of Valentine’s Day.
Why these ideas are genius:
- They are focused on the reason for Valentine’s Day.
- They are gentle on your pocket, where it’s not about flashing expensive gifts and dates.
- They are relatively easy to plan and will make the texture and quality of your life so much better.

5 BRILLIANT IDEAS TO TRY OUT THIS VALENTINE’S DAY.
Here are fantastic ideas that are sure to make your valentine’s day memorable.
- Plan a staycation (or daycation 😃)
When you read about staycations a.k.a staying back rather than travelling somewhere on holiday, there is the sense that it’s an unwelcome alternative for those who cannot afford a real vacation.
While travel can be a life-changing experience, staycations can be the same. Like with anything, it all starts with the plan, but before you run, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Since it’s just for a day or two, you don’t need to do too much.
Here are key elements to set the scene for an epic staycation:
- Refreshments: This is perhaps the most important aspect of a daycation. Select the foods you love and if you can, buy ahead to reduce costs.
- Entertainment: Consider how you want to stay engaged during your day. You could dig into a book, movie, try out games (if you’re spending it with others), take long naps, it’s up to you. Enjoy it!
- Fashion: dress the part. Don’t relegate your good clothes to only when you go out. Wear something nice yet comfortable, you will generally feel better.
2. Send personalised love notes to your family.
How do you show love to your family members? I imagine you buy gifts at certain times of the year, which is great. But now, I want you to try something different.
Send them personalised love notes. Use this medium to express what each person means to you. I encourage you to also affirm and compliment them. Show them why they matter and why the world is a much better place because they are in it.
3. Pay it forward.
Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to give back in your community.
There are so many ideas out there.
I have a friend who usually organises a Valentine’s Day party at an orphanage she supports. She has been doing this for over 15years. You should see how the children light up on that day.
Other ideas include:
- Send a packaged meal(groceries) to a family in need.
- Buy a gift for domestic staff or perhaps that lovely lady that provides cleaning or catering services to you.
- Volunteer
4. Play
Isn’t it sad that society has relegated play to something only kids should do? Similarly, what we often consider adult “play” it’s usually more about vices that are expensive and sometimes dangerous like gambling, race car driving amongst others.
My question: Why can’t there be adult trampolines and bouncy castles? Or am I alone in this?
I remember a few years ago where I went to a play center with a few classmates. One of my classmates got on a trampoline and started jumping, and when no one stopped her, a few of us joined her and I can safely tell you that it was the most fun I had had in ages. I felt so carefree and happy. It was a great feeling and it still brings a smile to my face whenever I remember.
What about you? How do you feel about taking up fund activities?
It would add some much needed color to your day.

5. Work on your biggest dream right now
What is your biggest goal? If you’ve been following this blog, then I imagine you have that already mapped out using our inverse goal setting method.
If so, a special day like VD, can be a great time to work on the things that matter to you.
Working on your biggest dreams is a powerful expression of self-love. So go ahead and make your dreams come true.
SEEING THE FULL PICTURE
While you may not be in a romantic relationship right now, this shouldn’t stop you from living a full and amazing life.

The best part is that these ideas work whether you’re single or in a relationship. I really do hope you truly have an epic day.
