For a long time, I thought of wellness as the bigger things: eating better, exercising more, getting enough rest. But recently, I’ve started paying attention to something I had never really questioned before…the small, everyday habits in my kitchen.
The things I do without thinking, including things most of us grew up doing, and believed were completely normal.
The Unexpected Shift
I didn’t even set out to think about this deeply.
I recently took a food safety course as a way to deepen the safety services we provide to restaurants and hospitality vendors. (I work in the fire safety space, so it felt like a natural extension.)
But somewhere during the course, something shifted. I realized that many of the guidelines weren’t just for restaurants, they applied to our homes too.
The way we store food.
The way we cook.
Even something as basic as cleaning.
I remember learning that cleaning alone isn’t always enough, you actually need to disinfect and sanitize to fully get rid of germs and microbes. It’s so obvious yet it gave me pause
Because in my mind, once something looked clean…it was clean.
The “Wait… What?” Moments
There were quite a few moments during the course where I found myself nodding along…
And then there were moments where I had to stop and go:
“Wait… what?”
At one point, I think I said out loud—
“No way.”
It was about reheating food. Something so many of us do without thinking.
And yet, when I understood the potential risks of repeatedly reheating food over time, it made me pause in a way I hadn’t before.
Not out of fear, but out of awareness.

The Part That Matters Most
And here’s the thing.
A lot of what I was learning didn’t feel wrong, it just felt unfamiliar. Because the way we handle food isn’t just about information, it’s cultural.
It’s how we were raised.
It’s what we saw at home.
It’s what feels normal.
From washing meat to how we store leftovers—these aren’t just habits, they’re part of how we live. So I’m not approaching this from a place of:
“Everything we’ve been doing is wrong”
But rather:
“What does it look like to do things better, without losing the way we already live?”
A Different Way to Think About Wellness
Because the more I thought about it, the more I realized…This isn’t just about food.
It’s about care.
It’s about the small, everyday systems that quietly shape our health, our energy, and our lives.
The things we don’t always think about but do, over and over again.
What I’ll Be Exploring Here
So I’ll be exploring this more here. Not in a technical or overwhelming way, but in a practical, real-life way.
The kind that fits into how we already live. I’ll be sharing:
- Simple kitchen and food habits
- Everyday food safety (in ways that actually make sense)
- Small shifts that can make a real difference over time, and
- How all of this connects to a healthier, more intentional life

I’ll be sharing simple, practical insights as I learn and apply them in real life.
In Closing
Thank you for journeying with me this past year. I am excited about this new phase. Yes, I’m still learning and unlearning. Which is great because sometimes, it’s the smallest shifts that make the biggest difference.
A healthier life doesn’t always start with big decisions, sometimes, it starts with what we do every day, without even thinking about it.
